Coffee Roasting Tip # 1 – Read All About Green Coffee Beans and Roasting! #1

Roasting your own sound fun? Well, it is. However, you will need to learn quite a bit about coffee as you go. You will want to learn about how coffee is grown and processed; about the varietal beans from different parts of the world and their characteristics; and about how to select the right bean, equipment, and roast to get that cup that you like so much.

I recommend you start by reading some of the excellent resources out there. A good place to start is with reputable suppliers who sell home roasting equipment and/or green beans.

Start with Sweet Maria’s. They are a great place to browse roasters, equipment, and green beans as you get familiar with what is available. They also have teriffic information available. Start by reading some about the history of home roasting and then take some time to read about the basics. You will also want to spend time digging around Sweet Maria’s coffee library.

Enjoy!

  1. What a great blog….There is such an enormous difference between coffee that was roasted this morning and coffee that was roasted 3 months ago and 3000 miles away. I’m hooked on homeroasting and sharing my opinions with everyone who will listen.
