The second book I read on coffee is also by Kenneth Davids: Home Coffee Roasting: Romance and Revival, first published in 1996. It was published when homeroasting was still not common. This work focuses more in depth on home roasting. Early in the book he reflects on what life was like before WWII when most people still roasted their own coffee. Before it was mass produced and marketed in cans in the grocery store. He reminds us how quickly roasted coffee goes stalke and how much more quickly it goes stale once it is ground. He covers the difference quality beans and the origin of the beans can make in your cup of coffee. It covers:
- Why home roasting?
- History of roasting coffee
- Roasting styles
- Choosing Green Beans
- Varietals
- Homeroasting
- Equipment
- Guide to Home Roasting
- Storing and Handling
- Cupping
- Resources
